Wearable Technology is a Thing

Remember that post I made a while ago about the merging of Fashion and Technology (I mean waaaaay back to when my blog was all black and I was still trying to figure out what HTML was)? Yeah, that far back. Anyway, the center of my Jewelry, Meet Technology post was Ringly, a discrete “smart” accessories company.

The reason I bring this up is because I was trying to find tutorials for Photoshop, and I came across an ad featuring “androidwear”. Immediately my previous post popped into my head. On top of that, I remembered seeing posts from BuzzFeed and Cosmo talking about the same thing. When I looked up the Ringly website again, there was a Press section that I didn’t see before with various companies from Tech Crunch to Vogue explaining how, as I put it once, a stylish future “may be coming much faster – and more fashionable – than expected”. This just confirms for me that I wasn’t just coming up with some theory about wearable tech, back in early 2014, being essentially an open market.

However, now that Apple has decided to fill the role of producing relatively affordable wearable tech on a wide scale with its Apple Watch and other projects I’m sure they have up their sleeves, sporting tech devices as a fashion statement may become way more mainstream now (sorry, Google Glass).

This ultimately brings me to something I’ve been contemplating for a while now. When going over blogging strategies with the help of byRegina, one thing that is a central part of me, being a Computer Science major, is my interest in technology. I really like analyzing how Fashion and Tech are able to come together. But I’m not sure how to express that exactly here on my blog. There are plenty of conferences taking place all over the world discussing the same thing, so I’m not alone on this one. Social Media and advertising really pique my interests, as well… I guess I’ll just have to figure it out along the way.

Tell me what you think:

Can you see yourself showing off your electronics in the form of a ring or a watch, maybe even a bracelet? If you already have any of the above, what do you like most about your accessory (ie. style, convenience, function)?
